After celebrating sporting success in the last academic year, we aim to be involved in more opportunities to do the same this year.
We have committed to entering many more competitive events throughout this year which can be seen on our sport calendar. More clubs have been organised for both key stages so that a wider range of sports can be accessed during the year; details of these can be seen under 'Sporting Events'.
A commitment to staff development and equipment has also been made to ensure we continue to provide high quality sport and physical education across the school.
What is the sports premium?
The government have agreed to continue this funding for the academic year '2022 to 2023', to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary schools.
This funding can only be spent on provision of P.E. and sport in schools.
Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary-aged pupils they have in years 1-6, as recorded in the annual schools census.
Schools must spend this funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
As a school, we have a monitoring plan in place to support the continued provision for Sport and PE in the future. This includes the replacing and renewing of equipment as needed. We also monitor and assess at each half term to identify the needs of the children and staff's professional development.
How much is our school receiving?
Our school is receiving £16,000 plus £10 for every child in Years 1-6. This equals £17,760 for this academic year.
Sustainability
At Horndon on-the-Hill Church of England Primary School, we recognise the positive influence that a varied PE curriculum and a range of extra-curricular opportunities has not only on academic achievement but also the health and well-being of our children. By subscribing to the Thurrock School Sport Partnership, we are able to train our staff to lead high quality PE lessons and enter more competitive sports competitions using the Sports Premium Funding. It also enables us to invest in equipment, facilities and high quality coaching services for our after-school sports clubs.
How will the impact be measured?
- Staff developments have been identified and this has formed the basis of how we will use our CPD training.
- School Governors will monitor and report on the impact of how funding is spent.
- Lesson observations will be undertaken with teachers to ensure the delivery of good to outstanding lessons
- Children will complete a questionnaire at the end of the first and third terms to assess attitudes towards the PE and sport offered to them
- School will audit the participation in clubs and events - measuring increased participation for this academic year.
Our increased participation and improvements to P.E. and Sport this year means we successfully gained the Sainsbury's School Sport Silver award. This acknowledges the impact of the sport's funding and our commitment to the development of competition, school sport and physical education.
